Explanation
of Contracts 1)
Limited Registration and Limited Registration Contract
As
of 2003, all of puppies purchased from Windswept will be sold on Limited
Registration. Windswept expects all puppies sold with Limited
Registration to be spayed/neutered and we will retain the registration
papers until proof of spay/neuter is produced. Limited Registration means that the dog is eligible for
registration with the American Kennel Club. However, any offspring produced by
the dog would not be eligible. Furthermore, dogs, which are registered with a
limited designation, are ineligible to enter bench competition (dog shows); they
are, however, eligible to enter all other AKC events including, but not limited
to agility, obedience, and herding trials. Most puppies purchased through
Windswept are purchased as companion dogs by owners who have no interest in
breeding or showing; therefore, limited registration will have no bearing on
these dogs. However, should an owner decide to become involved with showing and
or breeding, limited registration will be a factor.
Although limited registration may be used to protect a breeding program
by preventing new owners from using the litter owner’s bloodlines, Windswept
does not have any objection to a new owner eventually deciding to breed from
Windswept bloodlines. However, to ensure that dogs produced by Windswept are
bred responsibly, we do insist that certain criteria be met prior to breeding a
dog obtained from us. Limited registration allows Windswept to promotes
responsible breeding of its dogs with the intent of providing education and
guidance to those owners who may wish to undertake dog breeding. When the dog
owner meets the necessary criteria outlined in the Limited Registration
Contract, Windswept will remove the limited designation and allow full
registration of the dog. 2)
Co-Ownership Contract If
you purchasing a puppy from Windswept with the intent to show, it is essential
that you communicate this to us prior to purchasing the dog. Windswept offers a
co-ownership contract by which the dog will be sold with full registration.
Under this agreement, the purchaser will be listed as the owner of the dog and
the breeder will be listed as the co-owner. Because the AKC requires signatures
of both the owner and co-owner for litter registration, this allows Windswept
(the Co-owner) to ensure responsible breeding, and will allow the owner to
exhibit the dog competitively. Under this agreement, Windswept does not require
obligation from the owner in terms of financial compensation as a result of
breeding the dog. When certain criteria are met, as outlined in the Co-owner
ship contract, Windswept will assign full ownership to the owner. Back to Information |
